Calcutta High Court has officially stayed the ongoing demolition of Member of Parliament Abhishek Banerjee's party office in Amtala. The court directed that no further action or structural intervention can be taken regarding the property until further judicial orders are issued. The crucial ruling was delivered by Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury following an emergency legal intervention sought by the Trinamool Congress leader's legal team.
Abhishek Banerjee had urgently approached the Calcutta High Court on Saturday evening challenging the sudden bulldozer action initiated at his Lok Sabha constituency office. Recognizing the gravity of the situation, his lawyers successfully requested an extraordinary, urgent hearing on Sunday despite it being an official court holiday. Although the special proceedings were initially scheduled to commence at 12:00 noon, the hearing experienced temporary delays due to the initial absence of the state's legal representative.
The legal proceedings officially resumed at 1:30 PM in the courtroom of Justice Raja Basu Chowdhury. After hearing the arguments presented by the petitioner's counsel regarding the demolition process, the bench decided to intervene immediately to halt any further flattening of the structure. The temporary stay order provides immediate relief to the MP's camp while the broader legal merits of the bulldozer action remain pending under active judicial scrutiny.
